I sure wish I could have carried in my digital camera. The camera on a cell phone just doesn't do the stage justice. It was refreshing to see that the music took centerstage instead of a lot of pyrotechnics and distracting extras My favorite quote of the night came from David right before he and Nash performed "Guinevere" with just one guitar. He said "We have been doing this for a long time...and now they call it unplugged".
One of my favorite things to do is people-watch. There were a lot of young folks but the majority were older adults (I am 41). The one observation I took away is that most of the older folks have not let tech revolution leave them behind.
It was interesting to see hippies in tie-dyed shirts, torn jeans and sandals wearing blu-tooth earpieces and carrying around Blackberrys...leading me to coin the terminology "hippie-tech". I sure wish I could have gotten a camera shot of one of those critters. I wonder if it is too late to be considered a hippie...i always felt I was born a little too late.
As you can see the theme of the concert tour was "Freedom of Speech '06" and featured a lot of protest songs such as "Ohio" and "Miltiary Madness" that still sound fresh even after 25 years. The concert also featured a lot of cuts from Neil Young's new CD "Living With War" (which I purchased directly after the concert as well as his DVD documentary: Heart of Gold).
Some people were pissed and left the concert because of the "Bush bashing". I even saw one person comment on a blog that they wish they had just stayed away form the topic all together and just played less politically aggressive songs. Comments like these just tell me that these folks weren't really fans since CSN&Y have always been known for their outspoken views on war.
I think Neil Young said it best after he finished singing "Let's Impeach the President" (which reaction was a mixture of cheers and boos)...he said "Thank God for Freedom of Speech"....and I do.
